I currently own a 1994 John Deere 855 with loader/backhoe & 72" belly mower. The tractor is 24hp diesel with turf tires and hydrostatic drive. I am the second owner and it has 970 hrs total. The overall condition of the tractor is excellent although it appears the previous owner had it re-painted.I have it listed in the CTB and other addvertising classifieds for $19,900. The tractor is located in New Hampshire. I was wondering if my price is reasonable.
Also, I am looking to upgrade to a 35 hp hydro machine with a loader and finish mower to start. Right now I'm leaning towards the New Holland with John Deere as a runner up. I'm not sure I want to be one of the guinea pigs with the new JD hydros. But then again I just read about the NH fan blade dilema. Any suggestions? My tractor use is mainly for home use.

$19,900 SOUNDS A LITTLE STEEP TO ME FOR A TRACTOR WITH THOSE HOURS,NOT TO SAY THEY ARE EXTREMELY HIGH HOURS.IN MY AREA OF SOUTH EAST PA THAT TRACTOR WOULD HAVE TO BE A VERY LOW HR CREAMPUFF TO BRING CLOSE TO THOSE #S.AS A SALESPERSON AT A DEERE DEALERSHIP I WOULD SAY AN AVERAGE PRICE AROUND HERE FOR 855,LOADER,MOWER IS AROUND $12,000 FOR A NICE ONE AND THE HOE ADDS ABOUT $3000-$3500 TO THE VALUE.THIS ALL DEPENDS ON CONDITION OF COURSE.MY GUESS ON RETAIL VALUE WOULD BE MORE ALONG THE LINE OF $15,000-$16,000,MAYBE $17,000 FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL TRACTOR.YOUR AREA OF NEW ENGLAND MAY SUPPORT HIGHER PRICES.
AS TO YOUR FEAR OF THE DEERE HYDRO,I WILL ADMIT EARLY 4000 SERIES HAD SOME DURABILITY ISSUES MOSTLY RELATED TO THE DIFFERENTIAL.DEERE HAS ADRESSED THESE WITH UPDATED PARTS FOR EARLY MODELS AND ALL NEW MODELS.MOST OF THE PROBLEMS WERE WITH THE 42-4400 MID FRAME SIZE MODELS AND UNDER COMMERCIAL OR HIGH HOUR USE.ALSO,THE LARGE FRAME 45-4700 MODELS HAVE A MUCH BETTER TRACK RECORD.THE 4000 TEN SERIES E-HYDRO HAS DONE GOOD SO FAR.THIS IS NOT NEW TECHNOLOGY,JUST NEW ON A COMPACT TRACTOR APPLICATION.I WOULD SAY THAT JUST AS IMPORTANT AS WHAT BRAND YOU BUY IS HOW COMFORTABLE YOU ARE WITH THE DEALER.TRY TO TALK WITH THE SHOP SERVICE MANAGER IF POSSIBLE.ASK QUESTIONS.CAN YOU GET INTELLIGENT ANSWERS OR JUST PASSING THE BUCK OR INDIFFERENCE.WILL YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THIS PERSON OR PEOPLE WORKING ON YOUR MACHINE OR GIVING ADVISE ON SERVICE ISSUES IF YOU DO MOST OF YOUR OWN WORK. ALSO,WILL THE SALESMAN SHOW YOU HOW TO MOUNT AND DISMOUNT THE LOADER,MOWER,ETC.THIS IS EASY TO DO ON A JOHN DEERE.ANY DEALER THAT IS SERIOUS ABOUT THE COMPACT TRACTOR BUSINESS SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST 1 LOADER MOUNTED FOR DISPLAY/DEMO.IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THE SIZE YOU ARE BUYING,ALL DEERE LOADERS MOUNT THE SAME.THIS IS A SIGNIFIGANT ISSUE IF YOU ARE GOING TO MOW GRASS.IF THE LOADER COMES OFF IN 2 MINUTES WITHOUT TOOLS IT IS SO MUCH NICER TO USE FOR MOWING.TO SUM IT UP,I WOULD RATHER SEE YOU BUY THE TRACTOR YOU WILL BE HAPPIEST WITH THE WHOLE OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE,REGARDLESS WHAT COLOR IT IS.FIND A GOOD DEALER CLOSE TO YOU.GOOD LUCK SELLING YOUR 855 AND WITH WHATEVER YOU BUY TO REPLACE IT1

Kind of high to me...for that kind of money, I'd be hard pressed to buy a used machine. With interesr rates for new machines as low as they are, it's probably cheaper to go for a new one.

In fact, why sell yours? Sounds like a nice set up you've got there.

But your price is $3-4 thousand too high. ....
